How the financial planning process works - Investments & advice

How the financial planning process works

At ANZ, we keep the financial planning process as straightforward as possible so you'll always know where you stand.

We take you through five steps.

Step 1 - Discovery

This is when you meet your planner formally for the first time. It's an opportunity to get to know each other, and for the planner to learn as much about you as possible. You will be asked about your financial situation, your family, and your goals.

The planner will outline any fees, as well as the various payment choices available to you for the professional services associated with implementing your plan.

Now is the time to work out if the planner is right for you. After all, this is a professional person who could be offering you personalised advice for years to come. Like any relationship, you need to be satisfied the planner is suited to your personality.

ANZ believes forming a strong relationship is at the core of good financial planning. If you're uncomfortable with the first planner you meet, ANZ can make an appointment for you with another planner in your area.

Your first meeting with an ANZ Financial Planner is a no-obligation appointment; you do not have to continue the process.

Step 2 - Strategy

Once you've met the planner you decide is right for you, they will use all the information gathered in the discovery stage to work out a plan to help you achieve your goals and be better off. This may take several weeks to complete. Don't be surprised if you are asked some additional questions along the way.

Step 3 - Recommendations

It's time for another meeting. This is the exciting part. Your planner presents your plan and makes some recommendations designed to help you reach the goals you want to achieve.

Step 4 - Implementation

With your full approval, and taking into account any changes from the previous meeting, your planner helps you put the recommendations into place. You're now on the way to achieving the lifestyle you deserve.

Step 5 - Review

Things change in life and it's important that your plan has the flexibility to change with you. So it's advisable that you and your planner meet at least once a year to review your plan, and to ensure that it is still on track to meeting your goals.

Some people prefer a deeper relationship with their planner. That's why ANZ also offers the ANZ Prime Access service. These clients also receive educational newsletters and a higher level of contact with their planner.
